Campfire is a real-time group chat for teams of all sizes to communicate. You can use it to upload files, have multiple chat rooms and keep your finger on the pulse of the business. Originally a stand-alone app, it has now been merged into Basecamp.
Signal is an independent nonprofit open-source messaging app that encrypts all your messages and keeps your conversation secure.
Slack is essentially a chat room for your team, designed to replace email as your primary method of communication and sharing. You can organise communications by channels for group discussions and also for private messages for information and file sharing.
Teams is is cloud-based team collaboration software that is part of the Office 365 suite of applications. The core capabilities in Microsoft Teams include business messaging, calling, video meetings and file sharing.
Whatsapp is an American freeware, cross-platform messaging and Voice over IP service owned by Facebook, Inc. It allows users to send text messages and voice messages, make voice and video calls, and share images, documents, user locations, and other media.
ClickMeeting is a browser-based platform (no need to download) for videoconferencing, online courses and virtual events for up to 5,000 attendees. Plans are based on file storage.
Google Hangouts is a communication software tool developed by Google with a maximum capacity of 25 participants on the ‘Work, Gov and Edu’ package.
Jitsi is a free open-source platform that allows you to easily build and deploy secure videoconferencing solutions. At the heart of Jitsi are Jitsi Videobridge and Jitsi Meet, which let you have conferences on the internet for up to 200 attendees, while other projects in the community enable other features such as audio, dial-in, recording, and simulcasting.
Skype is a telecommunications application that specializes in providing video chat and voice calls. Free for up to 50 participants, up to 1000 participants if hosted on a dedicated pool.
Zoom is a cloud-based video conferencing service you can use to virtually meet with others – either by video or audio-only or both, all while conducting live chats – and it lets you record those sessions to view later. Free for up to 100 participants, up to 1000 participants on Enterprise+ package.

Basecamp is a project management app that you can access in your browser and on your phone. It gives you the tools you need to set up to-dos, a schedule, create and upload documents and files, message and chat with your colleagues, and check in regularly with your group—all in one place.
